"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." Hebrews 4:16

Unfriended by Jesus

The Bible states, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile.” Romans 1:16-17  (For anyone who doesn’t know, if you’re not a Jew, you’re a Gentile or a Greek in Biblical terms.)

FacebookDo you share your faith with others? Why are we hesitant to talk about Jesus with our friends or our acquaintances? I understand that it can be difficult…it is for me sometimes. But the Bible also states, “If people are ashamed of me and what I say, the Son of Man will be ashamed of those people when he comes in the glory that he shares with the Father and the holy angels.” Luke 9:26

I’m more afraid of being ashamed before God and His Holy Angels than I am of being “unfriended” or snubbed by those who don’t want to hear about Him. To put it another way, I’d rather be “unfriended” by a human being than by Jesus. Not that Jesus would ever abandon us (or unfriend us 😀 ) but to be embarrassed or ashamed before God is just unthinkable.

Why does it makes some people so angry when they see or hear anything about God, Jesus, Holy Spirit or Christianity? Are they scared of the gospel? Are they born again Christians who have strayed, are they unsaved?  Who are these people? Whoever they are, they definitely need Christ. And deep down, they know it. And we know it too. That’s why we need to share our faith as often as we can with as many people as possible. We can at least plant a seed, maybe somone else will water it and yet another can harvest a soul for The Kingdom. Facebook

We should do everything we can to bring every person in to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and save them from unquenchable fires of hell.

Stay Connected:

Naked, the trees stretch toward a merciless winter sky; not even a blanket of snow for warmth. Outside my window, they are big, gray skeletons, their bones rattling in the wind. They look lonely-forsaken by God. One is missing a limb and the large trunk with its deep roots seems too big for the remaining branches. The missing limb had once been adorned with handsome foliage and delicate blossoms. It provided luxuriant shade for a family picnic and a solid anchor for a child’s swing. Made fruitful by the moisture from a rich soil and from the root which carried life-giving sap, it had been glorious. But was not able to stay connected.

But somehow, the missing limb became insufficient and barren. Perhaps no one pruned the tree and the limb eventually became diseased and threatened the other branches. However it became unfruitful, its doom was to be severed.
As Christians, we are called upon to “keep ourselves in the Lord” if we want to be fruitful. We may think we have no talent for serving the Lord, or we simply do not know how. But our worth and value are in Him. If His words are in us, if we are connected to Him, we have only to ask and He will give us the power and desire to do His will.
“If you are in me at all times, and my words are in you, then anything for which you make a request will be done for you.” (John 15:7)

There are those who are content with “just scraping by” as a Christian. One woman I know told me she would be satisfied to live in a small corner of Heaven in a shack like in the song, “Just Give Me a Cabin in the Corner of Glory Land”.
Would she, or any of us, look into the face of our Savior and say, “No, I don’t care to serve You, so just give me the smallest cabin you have and I’ll be fine”? Surely, we would rather have the finest, which God has prepared for us.
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you”. (John 14: 2)

So we should be grateful to God for continually pruning the diseased parts of our lives so we can stay rooted in Him. We don’t want to be like the severed limb on the tree in my yard…cut off from the source that makes it alive, viable and serviceable…detached from the giver of life and thrown into the fire. I for one, will not be satisfied with a cabin in the corner! I want all that God has for me here on earth, and in Heaven, I want a mansion. A gold one, that’s silver-lined!

“I’ve got a mansion just over the hilltop, In that bright land where we’ll never grow old. And someday yonder, we will never more wander, but walk on streets that are purest gold.”

Eternal Affairs

Man Praying in ChurchMany of us are not wealthy and we have little influence or status in this world. I’m sure that we have wished our lives were different and that we had more earthly advantages…I know I have.  That thought came again to my mind as I was studying the 20th chapter of Matthew where Jesus said to His disciples, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must become your slave.” Matthew 20: 26-27,

I realized what He was saying was that the greatest people in God’s Kingdom are those who have servants’ hearts, not those with worldly power, money or influence. “Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted.” James 1:9

Upon reading Jesus’ words, we can feel very liberated in knowing that we don’t have to worry about impressing others with money or prestige. His words bring the hope that we can indeed influence people, but in ways that have nothing to do with this world.

We can count ourselves blessed and even grateful that God saw fit to make us “lowly” in the eyes of the world. I know He sees us much differently when we decide to cultivate a servant’s heart.

Heavenly Father, I pray for a servant’s heart that I might be about your business. Thank You for Your Word and for the Holy Spirit who lives in me bringing power and understanding that I may apply it to my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

The love of God. God's promised rainbow.
God’s Promise, The Rainbow

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell; It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell;

The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled and pardoned from his sin.

O love of God, how rich and pure!  How measureless and strong!  It shall forevermore endure The saints’ and angels’ song.

When years of time shall pass away and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,  When men, who here refuse to pray on rocks and hills and mountains call,  God’s love so sure, shall still endure all measureless and strong; Redeeming grace to Adam’s race— The saints’ and angels’ song.

Frederick M. Lehman wrote this song in 1917 in Pasadena, California. The lyrics are based on a Jewish poem and have been translated into at least 18 languages.

Here is what Frederick Lehman said: “One day, during short intervals of inattention to our work, we picked up a scrap of paper and, seated upon an empty lemon box pushed against the wall, with a stub pencil, added the (first) two stanzas and chorus of the song. Since the lines (3rd stanza from the Jewish poem) had been found penciled on the wall of a patient’s room in an insane asylum after he had been carried to his grave, the general opinion was that this inmate had written the epic in moments of sanity.”

(Frederick M. Lehman, “History of the Song, The Love of God,” 1948)
